Intern Insights: Learning by Connecting and Experiencing
At Dembo Jones, we use our extensive experience and expertise to help our clients reach their goals. At the same time, we’re giving the next generation of finance professionals meaningful experiences so they can reach goals of their own. Our internship program provides first-hand, real world and practical insight to students from area colleges and universities. They don’t just see what we do; they learn how we do it.
This summer, we welcomed interns Rosie Carlson of the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, Andrew Rigg of the University of Maryland, and Andrew Bowman of Coastal Carolina University. Every week, interns worked with a different team of Dembo Jones professionals, exposing them to the diversity of our work and our staff. We introduced them to the software and procedures. And we gave them the opportunity to learn, explore and understand what the accounting profession can offer.
As their internships come to an end, we asked Rosie, Andrew and Andrew to reflect on their experiences. Their observations make it clear that we’re helping young people become knowledgeable and valuable accounting and finance professionals.
Here are some insights from our summer interns about their experiences this summer:
“Working with many different people who all showed an interest in teaching me about their work and the profession was really informative and worthwhile. I enjoyed working on projects for real clients and learning the different steps in audit and tax services.”- Andrew Bowman
“I was able to connect and interact with many different Dembo Jones employees, and learn from them and their experiences. I enjoyed working with a new weekly facilitator each week. Everyone was helpful and insightful.” – Rosie Carlson
“My favorite part of the internship was working on larger clients and seeing how things can scale, and seeing how important auditing and testing become as companies grow. I was able to ask a lot of questions. In the process, I learned how auditing and assurance are going to become more important because of more potential for error.” – Andrew Rigg
We are gratified that our interns are leaving with more knowledge, understanding, and initiative for whatever lies ahead. For these talented interns, that future includes passing the CPA exam, pursuing masters-level education, and finding jobs in the field.
We wish them well!
